Workplace Violence: Prevention, Intervention & Response-Click Here
DUI Approved-3 CEUs Code:M601 Workplace violence has increasingly become a concern for professionals in all areas of the private and public sector. The Occupational Safety and Health Acts (OSHA.) has established minimum standards for the medical industry in terms of minimum training standards. These standards are being extended to other industries including state and local government agencies and higher education to mention a few. The EAP is a logical department to coordinate the policy development, training and response efforts of a workplace violence initiative. The EAP can work collaboratively with Police/Security, Human Resource, and Environmental Health and Safety departments in the development of training and crisis response efforts. Policies should include "fitness for duty", pre-crisis intervention, crisis response, and post-crisis responsibilities. Key individuals should receive training in pre-crisis intervention, conflict communication skill building, crisis response, and Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) as well as well as other departmental specific areas. This course will explore the various aspects of developing programs dealing with policy development, training, crisis prevention, fitness-for-duty evaluation teams, conflict communication skills, and CISM as well as an overview of OSHA standards.
